1st. gen RX7 drag racing project

My goals are to go 9.7 at 150mph.

Things planed for the RX7

8.8 rearend with 4.10 gears, TurboII trans, REW motor with sec. bridge

Electromotive Tec GT ecu with 8400cc of fuel

Weldon A1100 fuel pump with -10 fuel line

S480 turbo with a 50mm wastegate

Water/air intercooler rated at 1000hp

26/8/15  slicks on 7” wheel

Tilton twin plate clutch

HP goal is 700rw and getting the 7 down to 2100lbs

Project to be complete by Nov 2010 for IFO Dallas

 

 

First thing done was install a FD radiator and fans.

 

               

 

      

 

Now the water to air intercooler, Rated at 1000hp. 16x4x3   3” in and outlets

50mm blow off valve

 SurFlow pump with a 10 gallon ice chest with ½” line.

 

 

 

 

 TurboII trans tunnel modification.  It is in a perfect location IMO. Also had to modify the trans mount.

Used the turboII trans brace. One bolt did line up on the drivers side and had to

Fabricate a mount for the passenger side.

Tilton/HKS twin plate

If using this clutch on a FC trans, grind down the cover bolts to clear the clutch fork.

 

  

 

Oil pan redone to use the FD motor mounts with the 1st gen oil pan.

Now the motor has four motor mounts, stock 1st gen fronts and

Stock FD rears. 

 

   

 

   

 

The cage started out as a Cusco 6pt bolt in for a FC.

Added the door bars and rear cross bar.

Had to modify the two front legs to go through the vents on the 1st gen dash.

Also lowered the rear loop 1.5 inches to make room for the padding.

 

  

 

  

 

 

REW motor. Very small secondary bridge. Ported primaries.

Ported the exhaust ports slightly bigger then the sleeves.

Added two dowel pins to the front and one to the rear.

Rear dowel is drilled .75” in to the rear plate.

The two front dowels are drilled .40” into the front plates.

Drill through the front plate tension bolt holes and tapped them,

so the longer tension bolt would not require shorting.

 

  

 

  

 

 

Turbo (S480) with the race cover.

T6 rear with a 1.32a/r  housing. 96mm back wheel, freaking huge!

Down pipe. 4 inch running out the fender

It will see a few 40/45psi Ό mile runs.

 

  

 

First start Oct 2nd 2010

 

 

 

Fuel system.

 Went with the Weldon 1100A fuel pump.

Rated at 1100 turbo HP.  Going with -10 from the

Tank to the motor then it “t” off to two -8s to the fuel rails.

Paxton pressure regulator with -6 return line.

5 gallon fuel cell

Four 1600cc and two 1000cc injectors for now.

Two 1600cc for primary and two 1600cc and two 1000cc for secondary.

C16 race fuel. Wanted to try E85 but bought the wrong fuel pump.

 

  

 

  

 

 

Dyno Oct 23 2010. Did a few 3rd gear pulls to start with.

675rwhp at 8000rpms.

4th gear pull was 670rwhp but let off at 6700rpms

80/85 tuned.

Motor had around 60 minutes of idle time, 5/7 heat cycles

Prior to this dyno day. Did 24 pulls between 3rd and 4th gear.

Boost pressure?? Don’t care. Timing-spark line on the plugs were

In the middle of the electrode. AFRs- really bad in the lower

Rpms range, under load still not consistent.

Jerico trans, pro-jay lower manifold, throttle body elbow

 with a 100mm throttle body.

Bigger rear tire after the trans upgrade.
